Ken Kwok

Founder/Artistic Director

Kwok Wai-kit is a foremost tap dancer and currently the Artistic Director of the Rhythm & Tempo (R&T) Tap Dance Company. He trained under Mandy Petty and Mohamed Drissi, and graduated from the Dance School of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, specializing in musical theatre dance. During his studies, he was awarded the Jackie Chan Scholarship, successfully pursued the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Associate (Honours) Tap Teaching Certificate, and earned a scholarship to represent Hong Kong at the American Dance Festival.

After graduation, Kwok Wai-kit became a full-time dancer with the Hong Kong Dance Company, performing in numerous acclaimed productions. He later obtained another scholarship to study at France’s Off Jazz Dance Center. Upon returning to Hong Kong, he continued to devote himself to the study of tap dance. He also earned the Australian Dance Teachers Association’s (ADTA) Tap Teaching Certificate and Diploma. In 2012, he won the Tap Dance category at the Kangaroo Cup Dance Competition, and in the same year placed seventh in the world in the IDO Tap Dance World Championship (men’s solo).

In 2008, Kwok Wai-kit and Leung Mei-gaa founded the Rhythm & Tempo (R&T) Tap Dance Company, and co-founded the Hong Kong Tap Dance Festival. He has collaborated with tap dancers from around the world and has been invited to perform at tap festivals in Taipei, Singapore, Korea, and Bangkok.

As a driving force behind promoting tap dance across Hong Kong, Kwok has trained and mentored a large number of talents, and today most professional tap dancers in Hong Kong trace their training back to him.

To date, Kwok has choreographed multiple tap dance works. Recent projects include: the 2024 Hong Kong Drum Festival; HKT x Westk Popfest : Illusion of Dance and Light (幻舞浮光); Scribbles on the White Wall (白牆上的筆觸與腳印); Hoy TV: Cantonese “Guangdong-Language Festival” New Year Special (開電視:粵來粵好過大年); Clockenflap – The Planets; and family-friendly tap dance productions Papa Is My New Classmate and Mulan: The Making of the Perfect Mulan (花木蘭合格女子養記).

Currently, Kwok remains the Artistic Director of R&T (Rhythm & Tempo), serves as a council member of the Hong Kong Dance Association, and teaches dance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts as well as in primary and secondary schools. His guidance has benefited many local tap dancers, and he has choreographed and taught tap dance for various commercial organizations and artists, contributing greatly to the field.
