Community Programme

《蹄聲足影》踢躂音樂劇培訓計劃 (沙田區)

To further promote the development of the arts and cultivate the artistic atmosphere in the community, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Children & Youth Services Jockey Club Heng On Integrated Children & Youth Services Centre and the Hong Kong Playground Association Hin Keng Children & Youth Centre cum Study/Reading Room, introduced the "18dART" Sha Tin — "Rhythms of Incense and Temple Grounds" tap dance musical training program in the Sha Tin district. Organized by our team, a series of free events were held in the Sha Tin area, inviting people of different ages to enjoy dance and music from multiple perspectives. The goal was to explore their potential for movement and cultivate an understanding of tap and jazz performances, uncovering one’s potential to dance.

The opening event will feature a variety of tap dance, jazz, and singing performances. Led by a host, this event aims to boost community energy and foster a vibrant atmosphere. Beyond showcasing a range of dance styles, it provides a family-friendly experience suitable for all ages, broadening public knowledge of tap dance and uplifting the holiday spirit. Furthermore, after the main performance, the dancers will conduct an interactive session where basic dance moves are taught, allowing the audience to firsthand experience this rhythm-based dance.

Graduation Performance

The project focuses on integrating learning outcomes with on-stage opportunities, enabling students to gain valuable performance experience. Over a few months of training, students will participate in rehearsals for a tap dance musical with professional artists. Classes are available for children, adults, and seniors, covering tap dance, jazz, singing, and extensive training across various aspects, including stage management. The musical will portray the history and culture of the Sha Tin area, serving as a communication platform through the arts. By building this artistic training platform, we seek to deepen the audience's understanding of local history, preserve cultural values, and nurture an appreciation for the arts.

  Shanty

Performed by the students of the programme, we are taken on a journey through a diary; that uncovers the life of Shanty, a girl who has lived in Sha Tin her whole life. We begin in 1950s-60s Hong Kong, back to the good old days of Hong Kong when we spent our days enjoying chicken congee at Sha Tin Market, barbeques in Hung Mui Kuk, as well as battling the devastating Typhoon Wanda. Through decades of changes, Shanty witnesses the developments of her hometown. Generations of families face hardships, yet stay and help each other, representing the resilience of Hong Kong people and their connection with the place. No matter how time passes, and along with the encounters of joys and sorrows, Sha Tin remains, and will always be our home.
